            Very pleasing, pastoral image; color of bridge pops it; reminded of renaissance painters
      
    Maker's notes:
        
            Sunken Road in the Hornet's Nest portion of Shiloh Battlefield. Thousands of Union soldiers died, were wounded, or were captured here on the first day of the battle of Shiloh. Their sacrifice saved the Union position and prevented annihilation of the entire Union force that was present at the beginning of the battle. The Union Army of the Tennessee won the costly battle on the second day of fighting, following overnight reinforcement. The resemblance to a cathedral is not accidental - this is indeed sacred ground.
