President's Corner - May, 2010

This is the last month of the Camera Club Year. It has gone by fast. This month we updated club bylaws and elected officers for the 2010/2011 year. NEW club officer positions were created to make formal jobs that need to be done. Now members who accept responsibility for these functions are officially board members and will receive proper recognition for their efforts. A complete list of our LACC board can be viewed on this website under the tab About Us/Executive Board.

President's Corner - April, 2010

Our Next Meeting is April 27 AT La CROSSE FLORAL. Early start time is 6:00. Our Educational Topic is PHOTOGRAPHING FLOWERS by John Zoerb. Bring your camera & tripod and shoot some flower photos. Also at this meeting we will have our raffle drawing.

Next up is the La Crosse Fitness Festival May 1 & 2. We have 6 members signed up to shoot photos as volunteers. If you wish to volunteer to shoot for Fitness Fest let me know. It is not too late.

President's Corner - March, 2010

Having a Field Trip Coordinator has worked well! We have been enjoying frequent field trips which will pay off for participating members in practice with their cameras and accumulating good photos for club competition. I am jealous of the great images obtained at Kickapoo Valley Reserve.

President's Corner - January, 2010

We have had a couple meetings in the smaller room at Myrick Hixon which is less comfortable. We hope to be back in the main meeting room in February. On the plus side, we have not had to pay the room rental for our “back room” meetings.

The La Crosse Winter Rec Fest is the final camera club activity for January. Our volunteers will shoot all events. This effort helps the La Crosse Park & Rec Department. It also gives members a chance to hone their skills and create some competitive images. We can look forward to a few of these images in coming competitions.

President's Corner - December, 2009

Happy Holidays!!! Remember our Holiday Party at Myrick Hixon on Sunday, January 10!!!

It looks like we will have lots of white stuff for the Christmas and New Year Holidays. We will no doubt take lots of photos in the next 2 weeks. Some things to remember when taking pictures this season:

President's Corner - November, 2009

Myrick Hixon Ecopark as our meeting place is proving quite nice! Lot’s of room, a great screen, and a reasonably central location for members. We may have to use the smaller room occasionally, but it will still be larger than our old location at the church. And, use of the smaller room is free (compared to $20 for the large meeting room.) In the spring we will have lots of photo opportunities as the days get longer.

President's Corner - September, 2009

The big news is our new meeting location. Beginning October 27 we will meet at the Myrick Hixon Eco-Park Building. This change will give us more room for our growing membership and great opportunities for field trips into the marsh. Note our next meeting, October 13, will be at the Shrine of Our Lady of Guadalupe at 6:00. Bring your camera and tripod for some good evening shots with interesting subjects. Our program will be by Bob Metcalf on architecture photography. Check our website schedule for details.

President's Corner - August, 2009

The days are getting shorter and making it easier to shoot photos in the sweet light of early and late day. We should also see more foggy mornings which will provide good photo opportunities. Our club has volunteered to be Official Oktoberfest Photographers and six club members have volunteered so far. We will be given “official Buttons” that will give us a free pass into Fest Events to shoot photos. If you have not signed up and wish to join our “Fest Photo Team” send an email to me.

President's Corner - July, 2009

Wow ! Only ten days left in July and the days are getting shorter. The county fair is over, but still plenty of festivals to attend – and shoot pictures (think People Category). La Crosse Irish Fest is August 7-9. The colorful Great River Jazz Fest is August 14-16. Ever heard of the La Crosse Storytelling Festival? Check out lacrossestoryfest.com. It is September 11-12 at Myrick Park. There are also more area county fairs coming – they are usually well promoted. For the big fest - Camera Club members will form a team of “Official Oktoberfest Photographers” this year.
