President's Corner - June, 2009
The summer is on us with new/different opportunities for photography. An important reminder is to TAKE YOUR CAMERA when you go on your summer outings and picnics. Sunrise is painfully early, BUT, the sweet evening light is now conveniently between supper and bedtime. When your activities and opportunities are mid-day, do your best. Many times very good images are captured when the sun is bright. A couple tips:
1- Try shooting your subject with your camera facing the sun for a silhouette. This requires the sun to be lower in the sky and can be especially dramatic.
2- If you can’t get your subject(s) into the shade, use your flash to reduce facial and other shadows.
Camera Club Summer activities include:
The Convention Planning and Officers/Committee Chair Meeting on June 30 at Owen’s house at 6:30. All are welcome. Address is 267 Elm Drive, Onalaska. Turn between Gander Mountain and the landfill road.
The field trip to Bob Hurt’s Studio in Dakota on Tuesday, 7/14 at 7:00. His studio is at 625 Main Street in Dakota. Bob provided these directions: “Dakota is located about 7 miles north of La Crescent along I-90 and Route 61. Coming from La Crosse , take the Dakota Exit. At the bottom of the exit ramp, take a left turn and go about 3 blocks to the Steve Morse Park which is located at Center Street . Turn left at Center Street and go one short block to Main Street . Turn right on Main and the studio is on the right side of the street ( 625 Main Street ). This is a residential neighborhood, and my studio is a renovated late 1800’s residence.”
Our LACC Summer Picnic will be Saturday, August 15 at Owen & Francie’s house. We have a big back yard with a deck and patio that should accommodate everyone. A reminder with details will be forthcoming when the date gets closer.
