Judges' comments:Very sharp; nice colors and frost; great capture of something this small; consider cropping as a vertical
Maker's notes:I had a series of good photos of Song Sparrows shot this spring in the Kickapoo Valley Reserve. This photo was taken on an April morning around sunrise and frost still had not thawed from the ground. This little bird got about four feet away from me while it was looking for food. I shot it at 300mm on an old Sony A-mount lens that was adapted for my Sony E-mount camera. Because of the different mounts, I did not have autofocus or lens stabilization, and had to manually focus and use a high shutter speed to ensure sharpness.
