Grandad Bluff
View of the park on top of Grandad Bluff taken from the Myrick Park marsh.

Grandad Bluff is the largest and most well known bluff in the La Crosse area. At the top is a park with a shelter, restrooms, and a beautiful scenic overlook. From there you can see not only the city of La Crosse but also Minnesota to the west and Iowa to the south.  There are also hiking trails available.

The view is to the west so sunset is the best time to go but morning can be pretty as well. Avoid afternoons on sunny days as the sun will make it difficult to photograph the view. The park is open all year round but it gets very windy and cold up there in the winter so best times to go are the warmer seasons. Fall is especially pretty with all the leaves changing on trees around the bluff and in the city below.

Directions:

If you're coming from La Crosse follow Bliss Road up the bluff until you get to Alpine Inn. At that point, you'll make a sharp right turn, nearly turning back the way you came in order to head west out to the park.
