LACC Members and Friends,
It was great to see so many members at the kickoff picnic last week. Lots of great conversation and food, and the quick birthday celebration was fun.
Kind of a lengthy to follow, there is just a lot to communicate as we get the year started.
1st Meeting, Tuesday, Sept 9th, 6:30 PM
The meeting will be held at the South Side Neighborhood Center, 1300 South 6th Street, La Crosse, WI 54601. Parking is on the street around the Center. This is not our normal meeting location.
The Format for the meeting will be a little different that the typical meeting. We’ll be covering a variety of subjects, with the goal to cover some of the typical questions that come up during the year.

- Brief update on The Fundamentals Workshops

- Last year we had a video on Underwater Photography. LaVaughn Hengst will be at the meeting, and will be presenting an 2nd video on Underwater Photography, and will be available to answer questions.

2nd Meeting, Tuesday Sept 23rd, 6:30 PM
The meeting will be at the Black River Beach Community Center, 1433 Rose Street, La Crosse, WI 54603.
The fundamentals program will be “Sports Photography – Football” presented by Kevin Millard.
The main program will be the “Questions About Your Camera”.
There will be experts available on the different brands of cameras at tables around the room for people to come to and ask questions. But...
We are needing experts on the following: Nikon, Canon and Sony Cameras plus Apple and Android Cell phone cameras. Please email commsyssm@gmail.com or talk to me (Steve M) at Tuesday’s meeting if you are willing to help out. The success of the night depends on members stepping up to “Be an Expert” for a an hour or so.
So…Bring your camera questions (and camera) if you need help with settings, menu options, etc.
Monthly Photo Competition:
The 1st photo competition is in October. Images are due no later than 5:00 PM on Sunday, October 5th. Categories to include Open, Nature, Creative, and B&W prints. Photos will be judged on 10/12/25, and results presented at the Tue, 10/14/25 meeting.

Dropping off prints:
1. Bring prints to a meeting
2. Drop Off at First Congregational Church, La Crosse: Mondays 10am to 8pm; Tuesday-Thursday 10am to 5pm.
3. If you need to drop off the print on the same weekend they are due –
Drop Off at Sue Retzlaff's, 1415 Sand lake Rd, Holmen. Fri and Sat 9am to 7pm; or by special arrangement. Use the garage service door.
4. As always, the digital copy of the prints must be entered on the website by the Sunday, 5pm deadline.
Dues:
In order to enter images or prints in competition you need to pay your club dues. To renew or pay initial dues see the instructions at "Become a Member /Renew Membership" available on the La Crosse Area Camera Club Website. This page also explains the different types of memberships and the cost of each.
If you are a returning member, you can also just give your dues to the membership chairman Donna Piette at the Sept. 9th meeting.

Photographers needed for local events:
The Annual Kickapoo Valley Reserve Dam Challenge, October 4, 2025.

Is looking for photographers that would be interested in coming to take pictures for the event.
The race check in starts at Landing 12 the main event area at 7 am. The official race time starts at 9 am.
They are asking that the photographers move around the event areas taking pictures of the paddlers, bikers, and runners throughout the day.
Photographers can go to our website and view our Race Route Map along with our Main Event/Transition Site Map under the events tab/annual events/Dam Challenge.

Share any photos you would like with KVR - (see info below). Photographers will get credit for the photos they take.

Vernon County Fair, Sept 10 – 14th:
The Vernon County Fair runs Wed, Sep10th - Sun, Sept 14th.

The Vernon County Fair Is looking for 4 - 5 photographer to capture the essence of our fair this year!
We’re looking for individuals who can commit to photographing the fair each day, documenting everything from the animal shows and judging of exhibits, to the rides, food stands, and grandstand events like the tractor pulls, demo derby, and more.
What We Need:
- Daily coverage of the fair, including:
- Animal shows & judging
- Exhibitors & their exhibits
- People enjoying the fair (rides, food stands, etc.)
- Fairgrounds and general atmosphere
- Grandstand events (tractor pull, antique tractor pull, demo derby, horse pulling)
- Free stage events (Nick’s Kid Show, Ta-Da Robots, Sunflower Project, etc.)
What You’ll Get:
- One-day pass to the fair
- Meal coupon for each day you photograph
- Full rights to use the photos at your discretion
- Photos will be shared with Vernon County Fair for use in social media, advertisements, and state convention photo contests

We get to use our meeting room free of charge by taking photos of park and rec events. Please volunteer if possible. When the photos are finished, bring them on a USB stick to the receptionist at Black River Beach with a note or envelope that they are for Kat.:
