LACC Members and Friends,
Next meeting will be Tuesday, October 28th ,6:30 PM – 8:30 PM at the Black River Beach Community Center, 1433 Rose Street, La Crosse, WI 54603.

Normal Meeting Stuff 

  • Judges needed - Sue will be passing around the judging sign-up sheet at the meeting, so please remember to sign up to be a judge or observer.
  • Treat Schedule – all filled up - Thanks
  • Ten of One Photo Challenge – Kim and Kristi will have additional handouts for the Ten of One at the meeting. The photos are due Dec 29th and can be e-mailed to [Contact info redacted - See original email for details]

 Monthly Photo Competition: 
Don’t’ forget to get your photos submitted for the November Competition.
Images are due no later than 5:00 PM on Sunday, November 2nd. Categories include a Challenge Category – “People, Hands at Work”, Nature, Creative, and Color prints. 
Judging is on Sunday November 9th, results on Tuesday, November 11th.
Notes:

  1. The complete competition schedule for the 2025-26 season is available on the website.
  2. Before submitting entries, please review the guidelines for submission available on the club website.
  3. Details are covered in footnotes on the competition schedule.
  4. (AI generated images or image components are not allowed)
  5. Dropping off prints:
    1. Bring prints to a meeting
    2. Drop Off at First Congregational Church, La Crosse: Mondays 10am to 8pm; Tuesday-Thursday 10am to 5pm.
    3. If you need to drop off the print on the same weekend they are due –
      1. Drop Off at Sue Retzlaff's, 1415 Sand lake Rd, Holmen. Fri and Sat 9am to 7pm; or by special arrangement. Use the garage service door.
    4. As always, the digital copy of the prints must be entered on the website by the Sunday, 5pm deadline.

Dues:
In order to enter images or prints in competition you need to pay your club dues.

  • Student: $20
  • Individual: $30
  • Family: $35
  • To renew or pay initial dues see the instructions at Become a Member /Renew Membership | La Crosse Area Camera Club. This page also explains the different types of memberships and the cost of each.
  • If you are a returning member, you can also just give your dues to the membership chairman Donna Piette at the Sept. 9th meeting.

Park District Events / Park and Rec Opportunities:
Park District Events to Photograph:
We get to use our meeting room free of charge by taking photos of park and rec events. Please volunteer if possible.
There are two Park District events which to be photographed:

  • Polar Plunge – Saturday, March 7, 2026 – at Black River Beach – more info to come!
  • Figure Skating Show – Friday, March 6 and Saturday, March 7, 2026 – Green Island Ice Area – more info to come!

There are 2 methods of getting the finished photos to the parks district.

  • Bring them on a USB stick to the receptionist at Black River Beach with a note or envelope that they are for Kat
  • Provide a link to a photo sharing site – Google drive, SmugMug, etc where they can be downloaded. E-mail link to craughk@cityoflacrosse.org

Note: Submit photos last year to the Park District on a memory stick? Claim your memory stick from the office at the Black River Community Center at Tuesday’s meeting. 
 
Fundamentals Workshops
Next workshop is scheduled for:

  • Sat, Nov 15th, 9:30 AM – 11:30 AM
  • Additional workshops to be approximately every 3 weeks. More info to follow…

Nov 15th workshop agenda:

  • 15 – 20 minute discussion
    • Components of the Exposure Triangle and how they interact
    • Demonstration on how the camera reacts to changes in settings.
    • Depth of Field Calculator example
  • Bring your camera – The rest of the workshop you will be using your cameras. There be stations up to practice the different “Modes”:
    • F-Stops - Aperture Priority
    • Shutter Speed - Shutter Priority
    • ISO – Changing the ISO

What’s needed

  • Camera
  • Lens with a focal length close to 50MM – Zoom or Prime OK
  • Tripod
  • A copy of your Owners Manual if you need help with the “Mode” settings your camera

Please reply if you have an interest in attending so we can plan on how many work stations to set up.
